Syntace Streamliner Aerobar Pro Modification
After going through 1 pair of Profile aerobars and 3 pars of Syantace bars, C2 in medeium, C2 in small, and now this Streamliner in small, I still wasn't fully satisfied with how comfortable the bars were...and after some thinking...how comfortable they really could be.
Let me explain. For my riding style, wanted to be able to keep both hands together, overlaping each other, similar to how you could do with the REAL old-school Profile bars. However, no bar currently on the market is now built like those old bars.
Hence, I made the following PRO MODIFICATIONS!!!
First thing I did was replace the taller Syntace elbow pads with some lower 1/4" neoprene padding. This really helped in the comfort dept.
Syntace Streamliner with modified pads to bring arms more in line with the aerobar extensions.
The next thing I did was cut off upwards extension of the left hand aerobar. This allowed me to easily have both hands grip the right side extension, and still have very quick access to the front brake. (I always felt a little spooked that I couldn't quickly get to my front brake while in the aerobars without having to detour around the left extension.)
Removed left hand extension for quicker access to the front brakes and better aerodynamics!
After test riding with this mod, I feel a lot better with my reaction time. It also looks more aero. However, having that right extension facing to the right was still not "right."
Hence...now it's true HACK TIME. After some surgery with a pipe cutter a filed down wooden dowel and some caulking, I now have the extension facing to the Liberal LEFT!!!
Finished bar, rotated right side extension to the middle using a wooden dowel and some caulking.
I test rode the bar today and it is now really comfortable and by holding both hand together in the front of my face, I feel aero like a Super G downhill ski racer. Think "Floyd L."
From the hotseat, now I can pretty much put my hands together in a relaxed and symetrical way with being all molepoe...
I hope this helps in this weekend's first TT of the season...
